Cladder

What is Cladder?

Cladder is a one-minute online puzzle game in which players try to figure out 10 words based on clues. Players are given 60 seconds to solve all ten clues. You'll be given a three or four-letter starter word and a hint that requires you to change one letter from the previous word to get the answer.

For example, if your seed word is CASH and the clue says "to run fast," you'll need to replace the C with a D to make the word DASH (this isn't a real Cladder answer, so don't worry about potential spoilers!).

To solve the next clue, change a letter of the word DASH, for example, if the clue says "a plate of food," change the A for an I to make the word DISH - and so on until you have solved all ten clues. You're not penalized for wrong answers, and if you wait long enough because you're stumped, Cladder will highlight the letter that needs to be changed. However, you don't want to waste too much time waiting because you're on a tight schedule.

Game Rules

If you're completely stuck and have no idea how to proceed, you have one skip option, but it costs you five seconds of your 60-second time limit. There is only one new Cladder each day, similar to Wordle; however, if one Cladder a day isn't enough for you, there is good news: you can play the entire archive of past Cladder puzzles if you so desire. Simply click on the archive option, which is located beneath the play button, to be taken to a numbered grid that represents all previous days of Cladder games.

In addition to the ability to switch between dark and light modes, you can play in one of three modes:

- Hard mode: you won't be able to use your skip, and you won't be given a hint as to which tile needs to be changed if you get stuck. If you choose to play on hard mode, your score will have an asterisk next to it to indicate that you've accepted the hard mode challenge from your Cladder-playing peers.

- In selection mode, you simply tap a tile to change its letter rather than typing out the entire word - mobile players, in particular, may find this a much more efficient way of playing the game.
- Teacher mode: This setting is intended for use in a classroom setting; there is no timer in this mode to encourage collaborative classroom play.
