Periodle
What is Periodle?
Periodle is a Wordle-inspired word-guessing game. Instead of guessing a 5-letter word made up of any of the letters from A to Z, you must guess a word made up of 5 elements from the periodic table ranging from Hydrogen to Oganesson. Words can thus range in length from 5 to 10 letters, as long as they can be spelled from periodic table elements and are valid English words.
Every day, there is one word to guess that is the same for everyone who is playing that day. This game, like some of my previous projects, operates on German time, which may differ from your time zone. Words may not change at midnight, but everyone receives the same word at any time.
The word to guess is chosen from a manually curated list of over 1000 words ranging in length from 6 to 10 letters. 5-letter words were not permitted.
Game Rules
If you already know how to play Wordle, skip to the section below titled "What are orange letters?"
Each day, you have eight chances to guess a word, and each time you do, the elements turn gray, orange, yellow, or green. The solution contains no gray elements. If an element appears yellow, it is in the solution but in a different position. If an element turns green, it is in the solution and in the right place. When you correctly guess the word, all letters will turn green.
The solution, in this case, is S P Ra Y Er. Carbon and oxygen are not present in the solution and thus appear gray in the guess C O P P Er. Phosphor is present in the solution, but in a different position; the first appears yellow. Because the solution only contains one phosphor, the second phosphor appears gray. Erbium, on the other hand, is in the correct position and thus appears green.
Please keep in mind that if you change the color theme, these colors may be different. This description does not currently dynamically adjust to the color theme.
