Backwordle

What is Backwordle?

Backwordle is a type of word puzzle in which you attempt to solve a Wordle backwards. You're given a 5-letter green target word and a grid of gray and yellow squares, and you have to figure out which four guesses resulted in the given pattern.

Game Rules

Wordle's rules apply:

• The letter is in the target word, but it is in the wrong place.
• The letter does not appear in the target word.

Furthermore, subsequent guesses will always include previous yellow letters but never previous gray letters. All of the words are from a list of fairly common words, but there are countless others that may fit the pattern but are not common enough to make the list.

Each puzzle will begin with all vowels revealed* and can be solved in any order. When you're sure a word is correct, click the check button on the right. If the word is incorrect, all correct letters are identified, and one incorrect letter is revealed, resulting in a one-point deduction to your score. If you get stuck, you can reveal one missing letter by clicking the plus button on the left, which will cost you one point.
