Nerdle
What is Nerdle?
The popular word puzzle game Wordle inspired Nerdle. After Josh Wardle's Wordle took the world by storm in 2021, a group of like-minded individuals (identified on the site as Richard and Imogen Mann, Marcus, Gavin, and Alex) decided to create a math puzzle game. Nerdle, which was launched in 2022, filled a void for puzzle fans who felt left out by Wordle's focus.
Every day, you, like Wordle, try to find the correct "term." However, in this game, the term refers to an equation that must be mathematically correct. Each tile can contain a number or a mathematical symbol. Green tiles indicate that you have placed the correct number or symbol in the correct location. A purple tile indicates that you have the correct number or symbol, but it must be placed elsewhere in the sequence.
How to play Nerdle
Although it focuses on numbers rather than letters, its basic concept should be familiar to Wordle users.
You have six chances to guess the answer of the day, just like The New York Times' game. Once you've submitted your first attempt, you'll be told how close you were by a series of color-coded hints.
Characters that do not appear in the sum at all will be displayed in black, while those that do appear in the sum but are in the wrong place will be displayed in red. Finally, if you got any numbers or signs exactly right, they turn green. You then return to the puzzle, armed with the information from your previous guess, and continue until you either find the solution or run out of tries.
Nerdle, like Wordle, gives you six guesses to get the equation correct. Don't be discouraged if you don't solve the puzzle on the first try. This game is undoubtedly ideal for math nerds.
